PTSD Awareness Month is a time to acknowledge the impact that repeated trauma can have on those who serve in high stress roles, including firefighters.
Firefighters step into situations where most people spend their lives trying to avoid. Serious accidents, structure of fires, medical emergencies, and loss are part of the job. Over time, those experiences do not simply stay at work..
For veterans, active-duty military members, and first responders, mental health challenges often stem from intense, high stakes experiences. From PTSD and trauma exposure to burnout and substance use disorders, these populations face unique pressures that require specialized care.
One of the most common questions I get from clients is: What exactly happens during EMDR?
Usually, by the time someone gets to GRIT, they've heard of EMDR. Maybe a therapist mentioned it. Maybe a coworker swears it changed their life. Maybe they saw it online and immediately thought, "Yeah, that's not for me.".
June is recognized as both PTSD Awareness Month and Men's Health Month, two conversations that collide far more often in law enforcement than many officers realize.
PTSD in policing rarely starts with one single call. More often, it builds quietly over years. One fatal wreck. One child death..
Make today day one on your journey to the life you dream of. We are here to give help, promote healing and instill the hope you need to discover that life!
